Our Purpose

Connecting people and skills for meaningful work

Skill and competency frameworks are emerging as a key way to organize work and to prepare the workforce for the future. Many models already exist and many more are being developed.

These frameworks

  • align people with careers and help them uncover and realize their own potential

  • add value to micro-credentials and badges through alignment

Linking people, skills, and job roles with badges helps navigate the world of work.

Badges provide signals to employers about the skills a person has and the roles they may be suited for.

You can even go beyond competencies to add meaning to your recognition of skills and achievement, including Big Picture themes such as social goals - GoFrameworks already supports alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Other themes are coming.

Skill & Competency Models

Skill and competency models organize the skills, knowledge, behaviours, values, and other attributes needed to successfully perform a job or role. (Roles can be roles in jobs, on teams, or ad-hoc roles that people play at work or in the community.)

These models are also referred to as skill taxonomies, competency frameworks, capability matrixes, workforce frameworks and many other terms. The common thread is that they help people, organizations, and systems understand and work together in ways that are aligned to common goals.

Click on the links below to explore the competency models on the GoFrameworks platform. You will also be able to explore other competency models that are available as part of this project and sign up for a free account on Ibbaka that will let you create your own skill profile.

New competency models and other frameworks will be added regularly.

Sceenshot of Ibbaka Talent Platform

Clicking on the Go to Framework Button takes you to the Ibbaka Talent Platform for GoFrameworks.io.

On this platform you can explore the competency model and all of its components (these can differ for each model).

With a subscription to Ibbaka Talent you can design and manage your own competency models.

On the CanCred platform, Pro level users can access the GoFrameworks platform within the badge creation workflow, making it easy to map badges and micro-credentials to important frameworks for competencies, goals and other useful themes for alignment.Available Frameworks

Our approach

This site is a proof of concept. We provide a small sampling of competency models and frameworks relevant to Canadians and align these frameworks with micro-credentials and digital badges on the CanCred platform.

Over time we will add more Canadian and international competency models and frameworks, to align with more badges and other resources and activities for skills and learning.

As we move beyond the proof of concept to full scale implementation we will provide:

  1. Granular search to help you find not just a competency model but the most relevant parts of that model.

  2. Mapping between the parts of different competency models

  3. More and more open competency models, including ways for you to contribute open models

  4. Ways to adapt and remix your own competency models

  5. Additional integrations with other systems and other types of frameworks

  6. Links from competency models to learning resources

  7. Support for IMS, IEEE and other international standards

Contact us if you would like to add your competency model or suggest other competency models or frameworks to be added.

This project supports the IEEE P1484.20 work on competency model definitions.
